To begin your assessment, to see if you are an eligible candidate, select your qualification level(from the left hand qualification menu). Follow through with this easy three step process and answer all of the questions to the best of your ability.

The Skills Assessment Process in Detail

 

 

Select the qualification that you require assessment in. The completed Self Assessment is forwarded automatically to Chef Central, who will make the initial assessment against your responses. A Resume (CV) is also required. It is worthwhile including this at the Initial Assessment phase. Chef Central will provide you with a price for the service. This quote will be based on where you are located, or whether funding may be available.

Tip: Always provide more evidence than you think is needed. This assists the assessor make valued judgements.


 

Once your Self Assessment (Initial Assessment) is accepted, Chef Central will then proceed to the Enrolment process. It should be noted that you will be automatically provided with a Student Information Handbook, detailing your rights and obligations for enrolment.

Additionally, at this time you will be provided with an evidence gathering pack (also called a Client Initial Evidence Pack). This pack will guide you through the entire evidence collection process.

Tip: Follow the Guide and make contact with your assessor if you need assistance. remember they are there to assist you, not hinder you.


 

Once you have received your Client Pack, you will need to gather evidence to support your earlier statements of competency. The evidence packs include a competency quiz, forms for your Referees to complete and various other forms of evidence you may wish to provide. Each Client Pack is different, depending on the qualification. The Client Pack is a step by step process that should be completed within 30 days. Once completed, return this to Chef Central for review.

Tip: Your  allocated assessor will be able to better guide you through this process. If you are having difficulties, contact your Chef Central in the first instance.

 

 

A Workplace Assessment is conducted. The workplace assessment is designed to for the assessor to gather further evidence of your competency, along with conducting a competency conversation and final review of your Client Pack. 

During the assessment, the assessor may take further phtotos of evidence, along with speaking with any referees, in support of your application.

Tip: Don't be nervous throughout this process, the assessor is there to assist you. Also the assessor can arrange and alternate place of assessment if required.

 

 

Once the assessment is conducted, it may be necessary to undertake  "Gap Training". (Please note, this is the exception, rather than the rule.)

Typically this occurs where there is insufficient evidence of competency, through the earlier processes. Many clients prefer to undertake the further training, even as a refresher.

Tip: Learning the Australian Standards and/or Occupational Health and Safety standards for Australia, will assist you prior to your practical assessment. Your assessor can guide you to the specific locations of this, prior to your assessment.

 

 

Chef Central will conduct a final audit and compliance check of each client pack, along with the assessors report. This ensures consistency of evidence across the qualification. Once this process is complete, Chef Central will issue the qualification, along with the recorded Units of Competency. (please note: if a client does not achieve a full result, then a Statement of Attainment will be issued)

Tip: A copy of your portfolio of evidence, is available on request.  Additionally, never give out your orginal qualification or statement - get certified true copies made.
